History Timeline:[1]
1921 - The first Pavilion, built in 1921 by Stephen Lynch, was destroyed in a fire in 1928.
1929 - The new structure was built, and had several owners in its history.
1930 - The introduction of what would be known as "big band" music with such performers as Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie.
1940 - Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Whitney bought the building from Clarence Mixer & introduced a roller rink to the area.
"Skating remained popular at the pavilion until the mid-1980s."
1985 - The building was sold to Ernest Gillan of Gillan Marine, who used it for boat storage.
1996 - Jonathan and Nancy Downing bought the pavilion, bringing back roller skating & other events.
1998 - Daryle and Carl Hoitt bought the property & turned the pavilion into a country and western tavern.
"Other attempts to turn it into other businesses didn't do as well."
2006 - Alton Bay Pavilion burned down while under the condo conversion construction.
